Krummholz and
Mountain Heather

Krummholz is a term used to describe the stunted, twisted appearance of trees, such as those in this photo. Below the trees is white mountain heather. And, at the bottom of this image, where the slope slid to reveal the underlying soil, lupines and a red paintbrush grow.
